They normally have like a silver metal trim thing and come in different sizes.

The big supplier / manufacturer in the late 1970’s and 1980’s was ANVIL… so they became known as Anvil-cases. http://www.anvilcase.com/

They were built of plywood and first covered with a light plastic fabric… later models where covered with ABS plastic. You could get them in a WIDE selection of colors in the early 80’s !! I had a briefcase, microphone cases, cable cases, and a case for my Yamaha soundboard… all in a bright yellow.

There ARE other manufacturers… but ANVIL was always considered the best.
